I'll Swap Ya

I don't know why I've never done this before, but a friend and I did a little clothing swap yeserday, and while she walked away with 2 bags of stuff (mostly old blouses/pants that I just NEVER wear) - I scored a few really vintage great pieces, which in my opinion is a fair trade off.

  • A printed floral blouse which I've always coveted.

  • A little 70s top that I think will look great with high waist shorts in the summer.

  • Sort of ethnic tunic/mini dress...which I'm not real sure about.

  • Black high neck blouse, which is great because I don't have a black blouse at all.

And this wrap sweater I wore today - attempting to not look granola momish...

I highly recommend clothes swaps! Especially when they're complete with coffee and chocolate, then switching to wine and chocolate. Future clothes swappers are a nice addition as well!

Had some great luck yesterday and will be adding great new things to the shop soon, below is a shoe preview.

    stripes mania

I have always been a big stripes person - which makes me so glad they're everywhere these days. This striped shirt I thrifted last summer makes me feel like I'm in the circus, but my husband says that it looks like a "going to the fair" shirt. Whatever that means. I need a better spot for outfit photos. It's dark when I leave for work, so I take the photos there, because frankly, there's no one there to bother me that early.

    Anyway - stripes inspiration....

From Facehunter (czech out her prints mixin skills!!)

From All The Pretty Birds (Katie Grand is darling - love the tooth gap)

Some really cute dresses I'm adding to the shop when I get a second....

    ok, i get it now

I like the idea of khaki-ish pants, and I've made huge strides in accepting pants back into my wardrobe, but I've been a little perplexed about how to style them to avoid looking private elementary school student. These looks are varied, but I really like them all....

    Snow snow snow

All it does is snow around here. I'm taking adavantage of being inside and making some tomato soup with fresh rosemary. We picked our first order from the Farmers Co-op we joined. Everything has been awesome, the tomatos a little mealy, but what could I expect in the winter?! They're perfect for making some spicy soup with. The goat cheese is wonderful too!

Nothing big about last weekend. Picked up a pair of chairs at my favorite flea market - they look pretty cozy by our fireplace.

I'm still looking forward to spring and am resolved not to buy ANYTHING that's not on my S/S wishlist. It's hard! There are such great sales...And since a trenchcoat is on the list, I'm thinking this Steven Alan one is a totally valid purchase!
I'm adding these to the shop later. I totally wish I could keep the green bag.

    Hmmm.

I've been attempting to compile a spring wishlist, but I'm feeling uninspired. I know I'm on the lookout for some neutral tops, some high waist jeans, a khaki trench and....

    New Shoes!

My "grey" Ferragamo shoes from Ebay came yesterday, and aside from being a little more taupe than what I wanted or what they appeared in the photos, I am thrilled with them. I actually had been wanting some for a while, but the gals behind these great blogs inspired me to seal the deal.

Fashionshesays - this girl has an awesome hot pink pair that I love!

Lululetty - I think she has quite a few pair, which I can totally understand after just one day, I'm hooked and trolling for a black pair!.

My newest blog discovery - Lady Lunacy, I don't know that she's ever posted wearing them - but has posted a photo in front of her shoe rack, which also houses these awesome Chloe wedges. Talk about shoe envy...

I figured, if they can rock this style, I'd be in good company. I'm drawn to things that are a little juvenile/old ladyish at the same time, so sometimes having some validation helps!

I also added these two great bags to my Etsy shop today. Honestly, I would love to keep them both...

    References Available

Sometimes I look for style inspiration, most of the time though, I'm pretty certain I know what I want and what suits me versus focusing on trends. But right now I can't stop referring back to this gorgeous spread in W's January issue. I'm sure that I'm behind the curve, because I just recently saw it (my mom gives me her W when she's finished with it), but I am drawn back again and again.

I'm always more interested in style than in fashion I guess, and I don't pay that much attention to designers, but I think this so wonderfully styled and photographed that I am taking a second look at many of the spring shows!

Go Lola - it's your birthday...

First sugar and fat, one day shy of her 1st b-day. She liked the fries better. That's my girl.

For your birthday, mama bought herself these....

Does anyone else ever feel bad when they win things on Ebay? I know how I feel when I don't win something I really want. I just hope this person didn't want them as much as I did. But to them I could say "refer back to previous blog posts, I REALLY wanted these exact shoes!". God, I just Ihope they fit.

    I want SHOES!!!

    These to be specific...

Sorel Caribou - because there's like 3 feet of snow here.

J Crew Sienna Moccasins - because the moccasins I wear around the house aren't really suited for winter time - these I could actually leave the house in.

Ferragamo Vara - because they're awesome and I think they'd be a nice alternative to wearing something super flat, which although I do more often now, still doesn't feel like "me".

And, I still want those clogs from my Christmas post!

    Been a while

Can't believe how long it's been since I posted. I was off work for nearly 2 weeks! Here are some basics:

Kirk's brother, sister in law and little niece were here for a week from just before Christmas to just before New Years - that was a blast.

Lola got dedicated.... on Christmas Eve. It was very beautiful and special -all of our immediate family and some close friends were there, and the blessings are really wonderful. And there's just something so magical to me about Christmas Eve. Lola sort of had her finger in her nose the whole time...oh well.

We had 3 obligations on Christmas Day, which was a whirlwind, but fun.

    Gift highlights:
Mine - A novel called Brooklyn (from my father in law) I'm halfway through and I love it, the striped Rodarte for Target shirt - which I've already worn a ton and some Vitamin C Serum from my dear mother - who is ever concerned with skin health.
Kirk's - ping pong table (from yours truly), a collection of Marx Brothers movies, some boring game called Sequence that he's really into.
Lola's - vintage Fisher Price toys from mama, pink cashmere ballet cardigan with bumble bee embroidered (bees are sort of our family crest), a battery operated dog from Great Grandpa that barks and flips when turned on, and from my dear aunt the Tale of the Two Bad Mice, which was my very favorite Beatrix Potter story.
And really - happy, healthy, loving families we see often are the best gift (seriously!).

We had a kick ass New Years Day Party, which I think will be a tradition. Ping pong was a hit as were mimosas and the sausage chili Kirk made - I didn't really have any, but apparently, it was quite good.

    Visual aids....
